National Honor Soc.

Membership is “…an honor bestowed upon a student.  Selection to NHS is a privilege, not a right.  Students do not apply for membership in the National Honor Society; instead, they provide information to be used by the local selection committee [Faculty Council] to support their candidacy for membership.  This is not an election, nor is membership automatic simply because a student has achieved the specified level of academic performance [3.5 average or above is required].  Selection for membership is based on outstanding scholarship, character, leadership, and service [The supporting information that students supply is reviewed by the Faculty Council, and selected students receive an invitation to join]. Once selected, members have the responsibility to continue to demonstrate these qualities” (National Honor Society Handbook).
